EMDR Therapy

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, or EMDR, is an evidence based therapy that replicates how the brain naturally processes experiences and emotions. Originally developed for the treatment of unprocessed trauma, EMDR is also proven to successfully treat anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, codependency, addiction, and a host of other issues. Utilizing the power of bilateral stimulation (the same process that happens naturally during our REM sleep), EMDR communicates with all the parts of the brain to help process through stuck points and distressing symptoms.

Benefits of EMDR

  • Where traditional talk therapy only communicates with the rational part of the brain, EMDR works with every part: the rational, emotional, and survival. This allows for quicker processing and more deeply rooted healing.

  • EMDR is not considered a talk therapy - its's a feeling therapy. This means that you are not required to talk through the details of an event or situation. Instead of trying to think your way out of a problem, EMDR taps into your brain's existing healing capabilities and provides the mechanism that allows processing to naturally take place.

  • In addition to working through distressing memories or symptoms, EMDR also targets stored negative beliefs - and helps install new, more helpful ones.

  • Evidence shows that many psychological problems are stored in the body. EMDR targets the whole nervous system to gently support and resolve the unprocessed emotions creating tension or overwhelm in the body.
